Step 2: A Working Thesis Statement

(Weeks 2-3)

After choosing a topic area, your next step should be to formulate a working thesis statement. Although you will most likely modify and develop this original statement during the process of drafting and revising the paper, you must start out with a clear-cut goal or objective.

When you are ready to formulate this thought, create a response and submit a thesis statement. Each student must submit a working thesis statement, before moving on to step 3.

Note: If you are having trouble developing a clear-cut statement, feel free to start by submitting a description of some of the thoughts going through your mind. I will be glad to help you formulate your first draft statement! Also, you should feel free to come back to this space for assistance in modifying or further developing your thesis statement as you write. These additional uses are available as you find useful.
