George Fischer -
Baden-Baden, Germany
So, you want to know a little about me:
Howard Hughes and I
arrived in New York on the 195th day of the year. He did it
after circling the globe in 3 days 19 hours and 16 minutes. My trip was
shorter in length and longer in time. I still haven't made it around the
globe yet, but I'm happy where I've ended up.
Never having stayed in one place too long, my
high school days were spent in
Virginia.
In 1958 Uncle Sam was kind enough to send Elvis Presley and me to
Friedberg, Germany for a short tour. Shortly thereafter, we
both married girls from the neighborhood.
Since the 60's, I have worked on mainframes and minicomputers. I
have been a programmer, systems analyst, systems programmer, operator,
user and teacher.
In January 1975, an article appeared about the
Altair 8800, a microcomputer kit. I ordered the kit in
February, received it in April and had my first home computer up and
running in June. I have been playing with microcomputers ever since.
Along the way, I decided a college
degree or two would be of use.
If you have any question regarding computers, feel free to ask me.
If I don't know the answer, I can almost always come up with a good
story.
Tschüs, George
