Term Paper Requirements:
1. A well defined thesis including the purpose, assumption or hypothesis of your research.
2. Differentiation of your paper/project from any current research.
3. Logical integration of information to support or disprove your thesis.
4. Organizational consistency, orderly flow, relevancy and effectiveness of sequential ideas and paragraphs to the central theme of your paper. Grammatically correct construction, spelling and punctuation.
5. Timeliness and scope of research. Submit, on the due date, a 2,000 word, thoroughly researched, term paper. Your topic must deal with a current aspect of the course and an initial outline of your research must be submitted in writing for prior approval. See the timetable below. 5% of the grade for the term paper is reserved for meeting the various deadlines. A paper submitted in Week 12, which I have not discussed the outline of, nor seen a draft of in a timely fashion, will be marked out of 15%
6. The caliber, quality and depth of research as reflected in the nature of the subject matter, and the sources utilized in your citation and bibliographical documentation including the use of articles from the Index to Legal Periodicals or its equivalent. See the UMUC Library.
7. Adequacy of format and documentation.
The final paper must:
a) be in 14-point Variable Width, Times New Roman or Arial fonts, suitable
for display as a Main Topic in the Webtycho classroom environment.
b) have footnotes or end notes with correct citations.
c) have a bibliography of sources used.
d) include, for each entry, the author, title, publisher, year, pages.

| BROAD THESIS - Once you have chosen an area, you have to narrow the topic down to a particular thesis statement: it's not enough to say you're interested generally in Tort law. By Week 3 I want you to be looking for references and material concerning a particular business law topic and focusing on a specific subject such as, "I believe capping punitive damages to be essential for Businesses financial wellbeing." | DRAFT - By Week 7 you should have assembled some material and have completed a first, rough draft of the paper. Before the term break I want to be sure that you know where you are going. You can then use the break to work on the paper. Drafts must be submitted for review. | NLT End of
