Prerequisite(s).  CMST (formerly CAPP) 100A - Hardware & Software

 

Required Readings/Textbooks.   Microsoft Word 2000, Thomson Learning

 

Course Description.  This course is an introduction to Microsoft Word 2000 as a word processing tool.   During this seminar, the student will learn to create, edit and format documents and tables. Intermediate formatting skills, adding graphics, creating a Web page using Word, and creating a mail merge and labels are also covered. Basic experience with Windows is assumed. 

 

Course Objective.  Upon completion of this course, the student should have a working knowledge in the use of Microsoft Word 2000 and its capabilities as a full-featured word processing program that allows one to create professional-looking documents quickly and easily.

 

Required Assignments.  Students will be required to participate in all labs and discussions. Eight modules with labs, ranging from editing and proofing documents to merging documents and creating a Web page, will be covered. Two exams (one at the end of each day) will be administered as well. 

 

Grading Policy.  Course work will be assessed as follows:

                                                Exam 1                         30%

                                                Exam 2                         30%

                                                Labs/Projects                    30%

                                                Class Participation            10%

Grades will be assigned as:  70-100% = S            60-69% = D         below 60% = F

                                                                                    (missing > ¼ of the class = F)
