Dr. Deming : The Man Who Taught the Japanese About Quality by Rafael Aguayo
This book is quite fascinating and useful reading, especially to those who already have some basic ideas about the Deming philosophy. It is pretty up-to-date on the final years of Deming's teaching, although with no specific treatment of the System of Profound Knowledge. The author comes from the financial sector and studied with Dr Deming for seven years in order to write this book. Highly recommended. 284pp 1990

The World of W. Edwards Deming (2nd Ed.) by Cecelia S Kilian
This is very much a book about Deming the man. It is written by somebody in a unique position to observe him, namely his secretary of 40 years. The book is a fascinating insight, containing as it does such things as Deming's own "observations on medical care and hospital management", and his summary of his teachings to the Japanese in 1950. It also includes something about Deming's background, his family, and his interest in music with some reproductions of the music itself. However, it is not really a book to learn about the Deming philosophy of management. 365pp 1992

A Strategy for Modern Methods of Management (Engineering Process Improvement Series)
This is an intriguing book which sets out to give the reader a flavour of the unique experience which was studying with Dr Seming at his very famous four-day seminar. The format of the book is unusual and uses a lot of visual images. Dr Deming liked the format and personally reviewed, corrected and added to the manuscript. The book is both highly readable and a useful resource for other learning such as in-house courses. 228pp 1995

Excellent. If you read nothing else about Dr. Deming's work, read this.
A very comprehensive and lucid book aimed at the "serious" beginner, although, by communicating important ideas with great clarity, the author has still managed to write in a conversational manner which makes for delightful reading. The value of this book, both to newcomers to Deming's work and to "old hands" alike cannot be overestimated. 425pp 1990

This is an interesting book of case histories on attempts at quality transformation associated with Deming's principles. The Deming Management Method by Mary Walton
Useful.
This excellent introductory book is more substantial than The Keys to Excellence. Dr. Deming's management techniques are all carefully explained in this step-by-step treatment. This is one of the books we recommend prior to tackling Out of the Crisis. 254pp 1986
