Why you should take college-level courses throughout your life

College isn't just about your personal goals. It's also about what happens along the way. Since your brain is a muscle, learning is key to a healthy brain as well as improved earning power (in most cases). Taking classes forces you to go to class (even if online), read, think critically, and communicate orally or in writing with others at an intellectual level - this is essentially exercise for your brain.

Additionally, the Information Age we live in demands that you deepen not only your knowledge base, but also your critical thinking and communication skills. In this regard, college classes provide a good return on your time and money.

There's also the flexibility factor. Though we're all living longer, none of us knows the future. The thinking and skill flexibility you gain from taking college courses can help you live well as you live longer!

Finally, in my experience, learning F2F or online is most often enjoyable for everyone in class, reducing for at least a short time some of the  work and personal stress in our lives. Stress reduction is another requirement for a healthy brain and living well, as we all live longer!

Why you should take law-related courses even if you are not going to law school

Law-related courses help you learn how to navigate business decisions with legal implications. Not every decision requires a lawyer. Yet when a decision has long term implications, professional advice can help one make a better decision. Law-related courses offer one not only legal concepts and decision frameworks, but also practical guidelines and skills helpful to everyday business/law decisions. In the process, you also learn how to distinguish between 'helpful' self help and when 'professional' legal help is needed.

In-class activities and case discussions center the learning process around your practical needs with special attention to the line separating self-help and professional legal help supporting a more positive interaction between attorney and client and better solutions.
