The Medieval World

 

 

Course Description

This course examines Europe society from the fall of the Roman Empire to the Age of Discovery. It presents a framework of European historical development that enables students to examine the evolution of western political and social institutions. Using a combination of secondary and primary sources, students will analyze topics that include the role of religious values in shaping social norms, the value of money in the medieval economy, as well as the images of gender in medieval literature, art, and architecture. This course also fulfills the historical and international perspective requirements.

Objectives

    In this course, you will:
  • Improve your understanding of medieval society by identifying key events and people.
  • Develop your analytical skills and understanding of the study of history by reading primary sources.
  • Evaluate Internet sources to prepare a paper and video project.
  • Analyze secondary sources.
  • Learn how to locate information using library databases.
